May 2013 Bermuda College Brings Classroom to Construction Site
Bermuda College students enrolled in the project management course, recently had lectures at the construction offices for the new Acute Care Wing of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH). Richard Noel of BCM McAlpine, is Project Manager on the construction site. He gave an overview of the project and its general management structure. He detailed the team involved which includes consultants, subcontractors and labourers.
“The visit to KEMH site gave the students an understanding of the components which need to be managed to achieve completion of any project. Obviously KEMH is a very complex project with many aspects to manage but is similar to management of any other type of project although construction projects are more visually obvious,” said Mr. Noel.
How work is scheduled, procurement and delivery of materials and the importance of problem solving, were areas Mr. Noel covered in his presentation. The students also received a tour of the building.
